    Corrosion in tank stands

Just wondering if you need to treat a metal tank stand with a corrosion inhibitor for use on a marine tank. Not sure if any dampness associated with having the tank on top well corrode the metal? Anyone have any thoughts or experience on this?

IMO it is very wise to apply a few coats of high quality anti rust paint or even better the stuff that dries like a rubber surface to the stand before setting up the tank.

Depends on the metal used. I think most steel frame tanks are powder coated. Unprotected steel would be at a serious risk of corrosion and catastrophic failure.

Thats what I was thinking. Something high end, I have a bit of that spray in truck bed lining stuff kicking around so I might use that.

Powder coated metal has to be exposed to weld correctly. Then you are left with a welded joint with no protection and some corrosion prohibitors can break down the properties of the powder coat mix. The powder for example will just fall off in clumps if you spray the welded joints with a rust check brand corrosion inhibitor.

I thought the examples I've read about applied the powder coat after the stand had been assembled and welded together.

Hard to get anyone to bring in the coating material here. The body shop supply stores are not to fussy on it. Apparently theres not a big demand for it. It would probably be by far the best stuff to use.
