    Puffer and friends

    Hello guys

My brother just converted his tank to saltwater Here's the setup

    50G tank
    Pacific Coast Skimmer
    45 pounds of liverock
    20 pounds of crush coral
    2x96WPC lights forgot the name

his blackish fishes ( eight puffer and green spotted puffer) are now in and swimming. The salinity is at 1.016 which he will raise it to around 1.020... He is wondering what other fish he could get later on. He want to keep saltwater fish without having too much agression in his tank. What are the fishes that he could add?

I don't think blackish water fish are going to do very well in a salt water setup that needs a salinity level of about 1.024 - 1.026

Well, i though the range of salinity in saltwater was starting from 1.021 no?

that's kind of low. Most will be within the range I mentioned. blackish water fish are just that... "blackish" water fish. if the water become too fresh or to salty they will not be happy.

I've heard of this a few times. Many brackish water fish can be aclimated to higher salinity and they will survive it. However, they don't live as long. I doubt if they have as good a quality of life.

In a fish only set up with absolutey no inverts you can keep the tougher marine fish at lower salinities but again, this isn't optimum.

I wouldn't recommend it. I think your brother should go one way or the other and strive to maintain optimum conditions for either brackish or salt. If he tries to go in between nothing will thrive.

Thanks everyone, i guess he will stay in brakish water then... i love his puffers so much. Well, can he keep the protein skimmer? Salinity is at 1.016 at the moment.
