    New Open Brain won't re-inflate!

    Hey there,

I just bought and added a nice open brain coral to my tank. Itís my first major coral (I have mushrooms and zoanthids Ė all doing great) and the reef set up it is about 2 months old now.
The problem is that I am most certain that it has yet to 'expand' or 'inflate' to the large voluptuous size it was when it was removed from the tank I bought it out of. It has been in my tank since Friday evening. Any cause for concern? If so what can i do?

All advice would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

My water gave me a reading of zero across the board for ammonia, nitrate, nitrite. pH is at 8.1 and i dont have a alkalinity / calcium reading.

Well, it's good to hear that your readings are zero for those said parameters, however I'd be curious to see your alk/Ca readings.

Also, the brain should be located in a lower flow area of your tank.

Oh and when i got mine it took a while to open almost a week, not saying thats normal but might be. After that it was huge but once in a while it shrinks and doesn't open for a day or two.

My regal tang was picking on mine. For the longest time I couldn't figure out what was wrong, until I caught my regal trying to carry it to another part of the tank.
BTW the regal is huge approx.7-8"

I once had one and it took it 2-3 weeks before it inflated. It then died when nitrates got out of control. I am eager to see pics of it inflated. As long as tissue isn't comming apart it will be fine. Also, as Tangman said, check your Ca.

Check your Alkaliity even moreso. Alk & PH are the most important, then Calcium a close second.
