    prism question

I have a prism skimmer on loan right now but im not 100 percent on how to set it up. im really just wondering where the airline that comes from the intake tube is supposed to hook up. there appears to be 2 spots where it could attach to the collection cup. if i attach it to the left spots, well nothing really happens in the sense that im not getting ANY foam. if i attach it to the right hand spot then the collection cut fills up with water.
also the intire unit it rather load, making a rattling kind of sound.

I have the same one. Yes it is loud. The spot on the left is to prime the skimmer. you hook the airline to that one first. When the water is flowing through the skimmer then you take the tube off and connect it to the other side. Then the bubbles will start and the unit is then skimming. You will have to play with the controls for a while to get the mixture right. Good luck. I don't like mine and will when I have the money, be looking for a better one.

does your collection cup on the top fill up with water?
what controls can i adjust exactly? do i just adjust the flow on the inlet tube until the collection cups stop filling with water?

the flow seems to be the only adjustment that i can see...

Adjust the inlet valve so that the water level is near the o-ring. It may fill the cup with water in a new setup but things should be better after a few days. Readjust the valve after a few days. Had mine for several years. Works OK on my 20g reef.

I have one on my 75 and one on my 55 and they work great. I hear lot of people complaining about them but, I have pretty heavy bio-loads and they are working just fine as far as I can tell. The concept is a mechanical process so the only variation I can see from one to the other is purely size and money. Smashing water around to seperate the elements is smashing water around.

seems to be working quite well for me too now.
it is definately taken a reasonable amount out of the water and i dont have a heavy bio load.

Just keep an eye on these units. I have one on my tank for a couple more days until I get my new one set up. They have a habit of suddenly changing their settings and filling the collection cup with water and returning all the gunk to the tank. Small snails also seem to love crawling into the unit.
