I have been told in the past that only a few types are OK for this purpose. some will degrade (rot) in your tank and may fowl the tank. BTW .. from what I understand they are also a pain in the behind because they get rather dirty quickly and are very difficult to clean.

The one I saw, a friend from work has it in his tank with lionfish and few more in it. It's black color (probably dirt) but I like it in black. I'll see if i can get a picture from him, then I'l post it with a same question. Since, he has it in his tank, I come to think it's safe, but is it compatible with other livestock?

Oh, what do you suggest how much live/base rock and how deep sand bed for 50g???

Most will tell you , you need 1lbs of live rock per gallon of water so with that you should put 55lbs of live rock in. Keep in mind base rock is very heavy so buy what you think you will need to create the base then buy the live rock, look for light and porous rock.

those fish are still alive, I do not see any problems.
