    drain noise

I have a 1.5 inch drain drilled into the back of my tank and t'd on the outside for a vent going straight down to the sump.

Just hooked it all up and noticing quite a bit of water noise (gurgling) from the drain. Any suggestions on quieting this down?

    thanks.

What is on top of the tee at the back of the tank. Typically you put a valve or a cover on it with a little hole.

You can also put a tube through it down into the drain to find the sweet spot for adding air to the drain and reducing the gurgle.

Cres is giving you the advice that is needed. you can also arrange the drain line so that the water dose not fall straight down like a water fall into the sump.

the tube should work really well...may need a long tube to hit the sweet spot.

it seems to make the most noise right at the elbow inside the tank...quite the turbulent flow there...

    any suggestions for this side?

that's most likely just where the noise is leaving the piping. Sort of the same as you hear your cars engine at the tail pipe but that's not where the noise is being created.

OK will try experimenting with the tube...and let you know. Am going on vacation for a bit while it cycles...so I won't want to add critters too quickly (have someone looking after the tank) I'll let you know on the return...

    Thanks again.

You should start by capping off the TEE and start drilling a tiny hole about 1/8" and slowly increase this size. Once you find the waterlevel stays stable and the nosie quietens down, you can then add that appropriate size of tubing to further reduce the noise by muffling the same way a muffler acts on a car. A very impotant piece of advise though is to make sure this is working 100% properly and stable before you go away as you might come back to a flooded house!! Don't want to scare you, but just make sure it's working properly for a few days before you leave.

What do you mean the water level is stable? Mine runs quickly down into the basement and there is no water "level" in the drain pipe at all...mostly air...

Still makes quiet a bit of noise....
