    Black Skimmer Bubble

Compared to the skimmer bubbles from most of you guys', mine is black in color, is it normal ?
or do it need any adjustment on the skimmer?

Are these "Black" bubbles only at the top of the foam column?

Um.... how should i describe? Well you know, both the skimmed water and the bubbles on the skimmer "tray" is black in color....However, the water in the main tank seems to be very normal.

    You know what I mean?

I am not sure what you mean by "skimmer Tray" If you mean the collection cup then it is normal for these bubbles to be discolored. It means the skimmer is in fact removing garbage from your tanks water. Bubbles at the top area inside the skimmer can also be discolored but the entire skimmer should not be full of discolored bubbles. If it is then you likely need more air or water or both to get those discolored bubblies to the top of the skimmer and out into the collection cup. The bubbles that come out the top should be somewhat dry when everything is adjusted properly.

It sounds like your skimmer is working good and only removing the crap instead of the clean water. The way I see it is if the water in collection is brown then there is too much water wasted. The darker the better. IMO

Yeah... "collection cup" is wht I meant!!

Well, whatever skimmed is quite watery, I have to say. I tried to adjust the collection cup a little bit higher but by that time, the bubbles could not reach the collection cup at all. Is that a malfunctioning of my skimmer? And btw, the skimmed stuff smells like drain!! Normal ?? :eek4:

Yes bad smell is normal, Don't worry about there not being bubbles going over the top all the time. they will get there when they are dirty enough to stay in the form of bubbles. Here’s a few "searched" links to Skimmer information you may find useful
