    need some basic advice

    i have just started a fowlr....55 gallon tank. currently using my old filtration setup....aqua clear 500 and a 150...purchased 30pounds of live rock.....can i add more live rock and continue with the current filtration?

    First off welcome to the board.

    If you want to add more rock after the cycle of the new setup is complete you will have to cure the new rock in a separate tank and add it somewhat more slowly. Even with cured rock if you add it all at once to a cycled setup it can cause a re-cycle of that tank. It would also be a lot safer to do if no fish and or corals have been added yet.

    thanks for the welcome rob. just noticed that i may have a star fish of some sort..it is about 1/2 a cm and is brown....it was attached to one of the live rocks that i purchased and has recently moved to a different location that i cannot photo at this time....any thoughts to keeping this guy?

    Care depends on the type of star it is. If it is a bristle star it is a good addition to your pending cleanup crew and should do fine all by itself as long as there is food to be had. Other types are somewhat more sensitive and require mature tanks if they are expected to do well.
