    coral suggestions for beginners

Tank is doing well...hair algae almost gone. I am wondering about suggestions to begin the 'reef' aspect. I have a red mushroom but am now looking to add some coral. Any suggestions for a newbie?

Tanks is: 77 gal with 33 gal sump/ 20 gal refugium. 120 lbs live rock and a AC 620 skimmer with VHO x4 lighting. Three months old.

I have a clean up crew with 2 percula clowns and a lawnmower blenny. Would like to add soon a yellow tang and a pygama cardinal.

a Leather has been suggested as well a pompom xenia. Reasonable?

    Thanks.

    Ray

You could add torch, frogspawn and star polyps to the list.

Some brains will be happy under low to mid lighting.

With your lighting and some careful placement you can keep just about anything. I have a slightly smaller tank with the same lights and keep SPS, LPS and clams. Frogspawn and hammers do well in mine, as does my purple tipped acro and blue clam.

Both leather & xenia are easy to keep.

Candy canes are pretty tough too. I have a couple of heads that should have clutched lillies a long time ago due to abuse, but they're still here.

    Cheers!

IMHO, Anemones require Halides long term, and they require excellent water conditions, and they will wander at will, just some things to consider HTH. SS.

You don't need an anemone for clowns.

They will take to frogspawn, torches, zoos, leathers you name it.
Actually the only thing mine have no interest in are hard type corals and what I mean by hard is that they aren't all soft and comfy to sit/lay in

My maroon snuggles himself into a mushroom. Myself I'd stay away from anemones. If they don't like where they are at they will move and quite possibly sting your other corals. I think thats what happened to my plate coral.

My false percs cuddled up to live rock, sand, and a power head before finally deciding on a frogspawn.

The female gets quite annoyed when it closes up for the night & is convinced that rubbing against it will get it to open up again.

Hasn't worked for 8 months, but hey maybe tonight will be different

    Cheers!
