    Green Star Polyps

I have a small piece of rock with some green start polyps on it. I was having somebody taking care of my tank while I was on vacation for a week, and they must have not seen that the rock had tipped over and turned upside-down. I came back and was disappointed, but I didn't know if the polyps were dead or not. I turned the rock back over, and the purple mat thing is still there, but the polyps won't come out.
How do I know when they are dead? What should I do?

I turned them over a few days ago. I am running about 5 watts per gallon of CF. Any recommendations for tank placement? Water Flow?

mild to medium flow, mid to high light.
very very hard to kill those buggers so don't stress it. in a few months you'll be asking how to stop them from taking over the tank
