    new CSS 3004 question..

    just wondering something..

why do you need to run the skimmer at almost full open for 24-48 hours to break it in?

tonight will be the 24hour mark so i will let it start doing its job by closing the valve a bit to get the desired skim-mate..

just wondering why the break in period..

There may be a couple of reasons for this.

1- To remove any remaining bonding chemicals left over from the manufacturing process. These chemicals, while nothing to worry about, do adversely affect the skimmer's performance.

2- To develop a slime-coating on the inside walls of the skimmer in order to improve skimmate production.
