    Cool Got crabs?

I'd like to add a mithrax or porcelain crab to my 25g. Are they reefsafe? Thanks.

I have an emerald crab and a porcelain crab in my 10G. I have had the emerald for about 8 months and the porcelain for about 3-4 months now and both with no problems. My emerald does have a slight temper but has never harmed anything or eathen anything he shouldn't have. They are both very interesting critters to watch also

    Good luck

I'll try an emerald and a porcelain. I know one who had a mithrax in a ten gallon (red mithrax?) and it grew large and wasn't reefsafe which is why I asked. Thanks.

No problem. When you asked about a "mithrax" crab I assumed you meant an emerald mithrax crab. I don't know about the other types. Like you have found some probly get too big.

    Red face

well, I added 2 crabs, one mithrax and one porcelain..
I made the mistake of not feeding the fish first and I think my wrasse got one of the legs of the porcelain crab before he hurried under a rock.

If so, wll the leg grow back? what a welcome...geeeeezzzz! I live and learn.

He came out during the night. All legs intact. It looked worse than it turned out to be. However, I read the porcelain crab does have a defense mechamism or a weak joint in legs and claw so they can be released and while the predator is busy, make a fast escape. And, then regrow the missing part.

The emerald is far more outgoing than porcelain, which only comes out after the room is totally dark. Who's to blame him?

It largely depends on where he's finding food.

I put my porcelain crab into the tank where I knew there was a decient current & I don't think he's moved more than 6" from that spot, except to molt over the week-end.

The emerald crab seems to be happy on the other end of my 90G, I've never seen him wander much, but it's the emerald that I only see occasionally...

    Cheers!

Thanks Krugar, I woke up at 4 in the morning to widdle and took my flashlight, and there he was on the middle rock. Same spot as last night where the powerhead gives a good current.
Like yours, the emerald comes out and parties after lights out in the dusk or my room light I see him running up and down on close to the glass with claws in the air (scraping algae I imagine).
