    LTA Splitting

I just got home to find that my 2 inch wide LTA was in half! I watched it for another 10 minutes only to find that it was now in 2. Is this normal??? Also now that it is in 2 pieces, what do I need to do to heal it?

Well, if it was healthy before this and not stressed, then congratulations. You have 2 LTAs now. Someone can correct me if i am wrong but i am pretty sure they will heal themselves if they are healthy.

2'' wide? thats really small and your saying it split into 2x 1'' pieces?? sounds very strange to me. I've owned 3 LTA's now and none have ever split. they just keep getting bigger. keep an eye out as that is truly strange.

never seen a lta split naturally in the tank, but fission is one of the methods they procreate i think, that and budding

I'm suprised to hear about such a small lta- or any anemone for that matter, splitting for the purposes of reproduction. I have not heard of ltas splitting in captivity at all, as a matter of fact, but I guess it isn't impossible...

If only I had a camera ready! I was shocked to see it ripping itself apart. It took about 20 minutes and now the 2 halves are attached to different rocks. Will see how it copes now that half of it is healing.

maybe the 2 rocks were the cause of the split. the foot was attached to both rocks and one rock probally was falling so to speak and caused the anenome to split??

It split on one rock and then after the split. It moved on it's own to another rock. Maybe I overfed it to the point it thought it was big enough to split?
