    Question Lighting Question

I have been trying to buy these philips actinic lights for my tank for like a week now. I have 2 power-glo 40 watt bulbs, and 2 marine-glo 40 watt bulbs going right now.

Are the Marine-Glo bulbs considered actinics? If so, is there any benifit to getting the philips ones?

Marine-Glo bulbs are considered actinics. Sorry I can't comment on the Philips being better or worse than the Marine-Glo bulbs as I don't mess with NO lighting (I will only use T5HO's or MH).

    he doesn't have corals crypto...

if its in that FOWLR then i say 1 daylight 1 actinic is fine... actinic is only use by certain algae for photosynthesis, since u don't have any corals u needn't worry.

it makes marine fish look nicer IMO, i liek the cool tone

Marine Glo are blue and peak in the 460 range. Philips bulbs are purple and peak in the 420 range, making them true actinic bulbs. Except for the color orange, Philips make florescense more intense with corals.

:wha?: I didn't say anything about corals. All I said was that Marine-Glo bulbs are considered actinics (and it's true they aren't 'true' actinics but are generally considered actinic) and that I don't use anything but T5HO's or MH on my tanks so I don't know enough about the Philip bulbs to comment on what make of bulb would be better.

ok, that is what i was wondering, cause I saw a tank with the philips bulbs in there, and it really made some of the colours on the rocks and of the fish stand out, but it does not under the marine glo.

    Thanks for the help
