    Pistol shrimp question?

How deep of a sandbed do you need for a pistol shrimp? I'm thinking of getting one with a watchman gobby, but want to make sure my sandbed is deep enough first.

Only a few inches, they will push whatever they want around, so dont be suprised if all of your sand or gravel winds up in the back corner of your tank

if you have rock with holes in it they will live in that too.
also if you build small caves with 1 enterance

also if you get one, find out where he lives before you start messing around with his home.

A level 1.5" of sand bed will translate into 6" or more in some spots.

They will use shells and fragments, rock pieces and small coral pieces (or non-anchored frags) to build their caves. The more material they have, more more elaborate the cave structure. In my 75 (36x20 footprint), the Goby and Shrimp have caves throughout the rockwork (over, under and around some places).

Any ideas on how to introduce a watchman goby to the pistol shrip to "promote" a pairing between the two? Or will the two find each other on their own?

they are not always guranteed to pair up.
it is always best, whenever possible, to buy them already paired up.
