I have the Aquarium Systems Natural Wave Wavemaker. It works great, simple and does its job.

Yes they are worth every penny

I've got a Ocean Motion squirt hooked up to a MAG12 & it's working out really well. My only regret is I should have done it as a closed loop.

On the inexpensive side, I've seen automagic powerbars that will act as a wave maker. I think Marinescape has a special right now for one + 4 maxijet 1200s for $165. IJO might be able to do something too. Worth asking anyway.

    Cheers!

I have a Wave Master Pro (by RedSea). It controls up to 4 powerheads and has modes for marine/reef currents (and random), fish feed mode (will shutdown most of the pumps for 10mins while the fish are feeding) and will shutdown some of the pumps at night for calmer waters.
I don't remember what the unit costs (I purchased it second hand) but it was worth every penny.
I like it way better than having 4 timers.

    Patrick.

I really love my 4 way OM wave maker. I prefer the mechanical wave makers on the closed loop or dedicated pump because of the volume of water it can move and the overall reliability of the unit not to mention the lack of power heads in the tank. As costly as the setup as I will never regret the purchase.

Are they worth the money regardless of type chosen... YES no question about it.

I'm looking into designing my own wavemaker.
It'll be something simple and cheap. Maybe one or two different cycles with adjustable duration.
Once it's made and passes all tests, I might go in mass-production.
Also, I'll be accepting custom orders too.

Tunze Wavebox, if you want to have a real 'wave' there is no better way to go.
    125G in wall
    2 x 250 hqi
    4 x 4' actinics
    tunze wavemaker & 6060
    2 x 1200 maxi's
    quiet one 3000

    ...just started of course

One day my daughter asked me for Nemo. Here we are thousands later and I'm just getting started.

OM is working on a surge making device that dose not use an in tank box. These types of wave makers are for sure IMO the best choice.
