    New 10 K Lighting

This is my 100 gallon tank with 2 x 250 watt VENTURE 10K bulbs. These bulbs are replacing 2 x 250 Coral View 13 K bulbs. These bulbs light the tank more fully, are brighter, Fire right away and come to full temp quickly. They are on 2 x 250 PFO tar ballasts as were the others. Compared to the Coral view 13Ks ... No question .. IMO these bulbs are far better even at the lower K rating.

    very nice !!

i'm tempted lately to get more light and add 2 more 175w 10k. i think it would make a nice change.

    looks good !

moving.. so temporarily out of SW :b8:
planning next tank, possibly 60x30x20 on 2x plasma.

I knew you would like those lamps... don't ask me why they are 10k lamps when the color they output is 14k but they do look awesome!!!

I've never seen 13K PFOs Johnny so I have nothing to compare to. At this point all I can say is WOW a very impressive improvement over the coral views

    Another BS in this hobby.

Are we so intimidated by K.

ya... there is no standard in these bulbs because people rate them differently and with different devices... i have been reading alot on the way they are made lately... and i'm more and more convinced of the quality of a pfo bulb.

as for k rating, the best would be to establish a standard that everyone could agree apon.

    like :

same ballast type & brand for testing. ( electronic over tar ) can be a major diif.. electronics tend to have a bluer look on most bulbs )

same wiring thickness & lenght etc.

same time running to see a proper result.
test many.. might be a fluke on a single bulb.

heat ?... at what temp did you run them at... and ballast ?

Many more variables could be added...

here's an example, someone I know ran a 400w mh coral vue over his tank and could'nt get coraline.. he switched to pfo and witihin days/week he got it going. .. but to the eye.. bulb/coloring/intensity looks the same. I also noticed polyps opening more on his setup.

In my case, i have no coralline growth in my tank except on rocks.. and super slow. yet in my sump.. i have plenty.
I only run 14k mh. hense why I want to try something different. i also noticed growth if I let my window shine light in the tank... sounds to me like my 14k are the culprit.. I think the band in which the light is outputed from my bulb is too narrow and corraline might need either a wide range.. or something lower.

moving.. so temporarily out of SW :b8:
