    Is 36" really 36"?

I want to add 2 VHO bulbs over my tank. I have a 65 gallon tall with a diy hood. I have a total inside length of 36 1/4". I'd like to know ... what is the exact dimensions of a 36" VHO bulb with endcaps? Sounds like a silly question doesn't it but as some of you know a piece of 2"X4" lumber is not really 2"X4" but 1 3/4" by 3 1/2" Do any of you have 36" VHO's over a 36" tank?

its really 36'' from pin to pin. you'll need room for your endcaps. so you might not have enough room.

I have both true 36" VHO's and 33.5" spacesaver VHO's made by Coralife. I believe you can get them from other manufacturers as well.

SloHand, don't give up so quickly...

With a little DIY you can trim down the edges of your cabinet to make a tight fit...Up to you, i wouldnt give up!

I had a 46 Gal Bow Front and I ran 4 x 36" VHOs over it. There was some tweaking required for the canopy. but they indeed did fit! I ran mine on an Icecap 660, great ballast!

Oh! this needs some investigation. I have a 430 icecap ballast, but no bulbs for the measurement. The difference between two 24" and 2 36" is almost 60 watts. I'll see if someone in the area has the 36" bulbs and do a real measure. I might be able to do it after all. Thanks
