    400w halides not very bright

I finally bought myself a 400w ballast, to run my PFO bulbs from Ivan. I plugged them on and they sure give a nice blue, but the intesity doesn't seem that bright. I have 175w next to it and they seem pretty much the same. I was assuming they where going to be major intense. Is something wrong or is that them?

yah it's the 13K. Ok so that's what it's suppose to look like! Just wanted to make sure. But because they don't look that intense, do I still need to acclimate the coral to the new lighting. And do all 400w halides look the same? are other brands brighter?

    Gools,
No they are all different, just as with any other wattage bulb. I use only 10k XM's and they are really bright!! By the way, is your ballast a dimmable type and if so, are you sure you have the wiring correctly done? I ask because someone I know had a 400w and he had done the wireing so that it was permanently on dim until it was noticed. What a difference once it was redone at full brightness!!

no it's not dimmable, it is a magnetic ballast.

    Cool

I have the same PFO lamp. they look dimmer because 13k is dimmer than say 10k,65k. and as greg mentioned,it also depends on the lamp brand. I like the 13k PFO but I'm always willing to try something different. I have an ARC 10K at home [not on my tank] and I try'd it. I don't really like the color but holy cow this thing is BRIGHT!!!! I'm waiting for AC to get the 14k in and I'll also try the 10k for awhile longer to let it burn in.

I have 400 watt 10K XM's and I find them to be just bright white. No yellow tint but not really any blue tint either just white. When I turn on the VHO actinics it adds just the right amount of blue for my taste.
