No, havenít tried one yet for the same reasons, I have heard of people using them and removing them after feeding for an hr or 2 then putting them back on mostly for waste removal not bubble trouble but hey what ever works, maybe a dual application.

Yes, there is always something Bubbles, salt creep, unwanted algae of any kind, the red death (slime) etc.

Ya, the helmet came out many a day I can tell ya.

Steve, I see what you mean about posting the pic, I canít see the bottom.
Do you mean P trap as in the same as a typical drain for a bathroom sink?
Straight down than U turn up?

How is the salt creep and do you get any water backing up?

Thanks Guys, I'll give the p-trap a shot, not feeling very confident, anyone know where I can get a Micron sock, LFS here doesn't carry them.

    Thanks

Has anyone checked with Ivan about the micro socks. In the old days we just used nylon socks. Any color works

those micron socks will clog up quickly, and it wont be able to handle such a high flow. i tried those at first. now i just run a slower flow through the sump so that the bubbles can have time to clear through the baffles. I also filled the drain side of the sump with rock rubble - give the bubbles a little more run for their money.

    Albert:

I guess you throttled back your pump?, I tried this and the bubbles just moved through the sump at a slower pace, didn't really help, I just finished trying what Steve666 suggested with the P-trap, didn't work out either, I put he p-trap on with a piece of pipe half inch out of the water as he recommended and the water still shot out another 2 " from the pipe, hence same amount of bubbles.

Very frustrated, might have to change the mak 4 out for something with less flow

try fitting a 1.5-3" reducer on the end of the pipe 1/2" above the water line, if this doesn,t work you will have to reduce the flow, i cant think of any other way.
The easiest way to reduce the flow without buying another pump is to tee off the return line and run water straight back to the sump thro a valve this way you can set the flow to however you want it.

heres a pic the white return pipe has a tee and returns water straight back to the sump, this way i control how much water goes back to the tank. I am running a mag18 at about 8' head what is the flow rate of a mak4

excuse the painted wall effect uke3: the last owners of this house had some very weird tastes, ive wiped them out from the rest of the house.
Can you post a pic of how your sump is designed?

Thanks Steve, mak 4 1190, I'm at a 4 foot head, not sure how much this reduces the flow
