because most if not all MH lamps available to the hobbiest are mogul based unless DE lamps [double ended]. you'd be basically tied to these lamps and have no choice in style.most retro kits and canopys are also fitted with moguls. personall, I like the moguls as there verys solid and have more contact area.we'll see what IVAN says as I have no clue whats up. I try's an ARC lamp and it was mogul. LIV, did you special request these smaller size??
is the glass envelope smaller as well??

hey guys... I think its just for this batch, they possibly made a mistake.. but ask Ivan.
the depth is the same, the internal element is identical size.. just a smaller socket and glass globe around it..
lemme take a pic.. back in 5min.

moving.. so temporarily out of SW :b8:
planning next tank, possibly 60x30x20 on 2x plasma.

Only the 175 watt lamps have this smaller socket and shorter glass envelope... I have yet to add them to the cart as I wanted to test them first.

It was a manufaturer error... the 250's, 400's 70 DE's have the mogul socket... they have also been improved... the 10 and 14k are now brighter... better built and all have starters added to them(10, 14, 20k).

We expect 175 mogul based lamps to arrive within the next few weeks... if there is a demand for these 175 E27(smaller sockets) lamps... we can always order more(we currently have at least 100 instock).

Long story short... we have stock of:
    70 watt DE(10k, 20k)
    250 watt SE Mogul (10k, 14k, 20k)
    400 watt SE Mogul(10k, 14k, 20k)
    175 watt mini's(10k, 14k, 20k).

Were out on the 175 watt mogul based lamps but more are due in a few weeks. Hope this clears things up a bit.

    Ivan

Forgot to mention... pricing on these new mini's will be lower than the curent sale on the 175 moguls... Were also looking at adding some E40 to E27 socket converters.

wow! actually that smaller lamp if now very interesting!! could be an upgrade IMO if light output and color are the same. Its always better to stream line our systems. How easy is it LIV to get ceramic sockets for that size?? This could be very good for new reefers starting up or reefers changing to MH

thats one of the main advantages, every home building supply store like rona and reno and homedepot... etc all have those in stock. I even found some @ canadiantire when I was looking for those last year.
but i suggest you go to rona or reno to get a nice rugged one.
they will usually state something like high heat or ceramic or similar. I seriously like the small size bulb.. they fit alot easier in my tiny canopy.
