    Auto Dosing Phytoplankton

Does anyone automate their phyto dosing?

I was thinking of setting up kalk and phyto to dose at the same time but the phyo is in saltwater and am concerned about the tank water becoming too saline.

For those of you that do dose phyto do you run it through a UV sterilizer? Do you run a UV on your main tank water?

The problem with dosing phyto would be keeping it fresh. Once phyto reaches the right concentration it should be refrigerated to slow the growth which keeps the culture alive and not overpoluting the water causing a crash.

As for the saline levels unless you are planning on dosing large quantities or into a small system I wouldn't be too concerned with raising the salinity of the tank. On the other hand phyto can also be grown in fresh water if you are concerned.

    I feed 2L twice a week.

I shut the return pump off for 1/2 hour so all the goodness is absorbed.

DON'T run it through a UV as the UV is designed to kill alga.

I've read that if youre concerned about algae blooms due to dosing phyto that you can run it through a UV. It will be dead yet won't filter feeders still eat it? Will it have lost nutrition having just been zapped by a UV?

Alga booms are a result of the phyto fertilizer not all been used up before adding the phyto.

Running it through the UV isn't going to take away excess fertilizer.

Phyto in the tank is supposed to reduces the nitrates in your system.
