    What type of algae is this?

    What type of Algae is hanging off my powerhead? What is the cause and how to control it

    if its the white stuff.. i'm tempted to say its a type of sponge

    moving.. so temporarily out of SW :b8:
    planning next tank, possibly 60x30x20 on 2x plasma.

    It's the white/brown stringy stuff. It is very soft and comes off easy to the touch.

    looks like dirt i get that when i move rocks or stir the sand bed up by mistake the fine ditris will attach to the small algae growing on my glass.

    Its a strong strand of cheap powerhead algae
    u have to buy tunze or vortech to fix this!

    Sorry couldnt help myself :b3:

    But it looks like regular hair algae mixed with sponge.
    Someone here told me to feed a bit less and he was right

    yes what a cheap powerhead!
    That's okay though, all my money is being spent on the 90g LIV is helping me build.

    HAHA no offense taken, Comparing it with a Votech is like comparing a Rusted Chevy Cavalier with 350 000km to a new Lamborghini Embolado "nice car".

    The one good thing about it is noise, you can't hear it. As for maintenance, the straining always gets plugged up with stuff and reduces flow. That's about it.

    You can easily mod the MJs and really increase the flow. Some of the mods are free - all you need is a saw and a drill. You can also but mod kits for about $25
