    Mangrove Lighting

What type of lighting do mangroves require? Does the light need to be above the top of the plant...shining down on the leaves?
I want to use some in my seahorse tank and I'm just trying to figure out how to light it. It will only be seahorses, LR some macro algae and the mangroves...no corals and any other light sensitive animals.

well, I'm going on the premise of all my regular plants and how mangroves are in the wild with the sun shining down. So I would say yes to above lighting and you could use regular NO lighting as It seems to work for me. I find mangroves grow slow.

    Thanks Johnny.

I've heard that they grow slowly as well. That's probably a good thing seeing as how big they get!
I figured that they would need the light from above too since they are a plant...just wanted to make sure.

How much of the plant needs to be submerged? Just the roots? or all the way up to the leaves?

    Cool

I talked to HARLEY and posted a thread on RC I think? but anyways you can submerge them right up to were the leaves are. That what I had to do because there right inside my temporary tank.

Ivan had them listed for about $11 the last time I looked. The one I got from Ivan wasn't as big as the ones from Mark but it is growing.

They haven't had much of a chance to do anything yet. I built a box out of egg crate to hold them so the upper 2 inches were out of the water and then suspended them in the refuge until the new sump is working. They have a 19 w PC light on both sides. Now if they would only hurry and grow back their leaves. LOL I know - I'm impatient.
