Well since we are starting over I will reask my question.

What are your plans for this tank. Salt(reef, FO)/fresh?

Originally I was going to glue slices of rock on the back glass(aout 3/4's of an inch thick) and try for a mini reef but last night I decided to take a simple/clean route and go with a FO system. I will put a few selected pieces of rock(more than likely some long branch rock)... a 3 inch sugar sandbed(image above), another internal filter(so i can clean one of them every month) and only a few fish. Water changes will be done every second week and I think 5 gallons will do it.

I will make sure to keep an eye on the ammonia and nitrate levels for the first 6 months very closely until I am confident the system is somewhat stable. If I'm not satisfied with the bio capacity I will more than likely go back to the wall of liverock idea and turn it into a mini reef.

A couple shots with sand and water... if you look at the second picture... you can see the fine dust that has settled. I'll be syphoning this out(its only fresh water in there right now).

Do you have to remove the face plate for feeding? Also, where did you get the Bomix?
If my wife asks, it was only $20.

hope he doesn't have to remove the front to feed. Hope not.. cauz if it is.. major design flaw.. but i'm willing to bet there is some kind of top or side trap.
