    LIV's ~12g freshwater tank

    Hi everyone,

had to scoop out the shubunkins from the pond this am, water was really close to freezing, and didn't want to loose them ( should have moved them weeks ago ). So, went to look at the tanks i got left in the basement, either too big or not cute enough to sit in the kitchen/dining area.

So, went on a quest to find a nice shallow rimless tank this am at the LFS's.
found a nice turtle setup thats about 12.3gallons from calculations( 18x18x9 ) at its shallowest.

re-used my pond filter (EX70 45-70g spec filter ) ( washed and new media of course ) no heaters, they survives just great all spring/summer/fall in the shallow pond outside, they will be happy in the unheated setup im sure.
as for lighting, It was led or nothing.. period. I did not want to change bulbs from time to time, and did not want something huge sitting on the tank... and of course i'm trying to see how little hydro I can use on this setup.
So I took apart my cree 5w head lamp from ebay ( 5$ with shipping ) and attached it to a 4.5vdc old cellphone charger and attached this to a stainless steel rod I had lying around from past projects.

Sorry about that bad picture, its from my cell phone, wife gone with our regular cam :b2:

moving.. so temporarily out of SW :b8:
planning next tank, possibly 60x30x20 on 2x plasma.

he he.. ya.. on regular large ponds, we leave the fish in all year too.. they do fine under the ice.. but my pond is only 12" deep. so would have been a solid block of ice shortly.

Not sure its enough light to support plants.. would have been nice.
