throw in your xp cd and if it bootable... it should ask you if you would like to reformat and step you through the rest of the install process

throw in your bootdisk.... and reboot... at the DOS prompt... type in fdisk.. you should be able to remove your partitions there.... make sure you reformat after you create the new partition.

Your going to need a boot disk... I can't remember off hand where in you would have to go in XP to create one... but I'm sure its in there somewhere.

Find out if your cd is bootable... throw it in and reboot your machine... if it boots from your cd.. you could always use something like partition magic to edit your partition table before installing XP.

you can boot from CD and then go into dos mode that way. you might have to change directories to find the "old dos" directory etc. to find FDISK. once you do, use that to delete & recreate your partition table.. once that's done, reboot from CD and boot up the XP startup proggie to install it...

Apparently, XP doesnot use a boot disk, fdisk, you as you said boot from the disc, or make a fdisk from Windows Mellinuim. MEs fdisk is the only one that works with XP. I also found out that fdisk does not clean your hard drive thoughly, a lot of info is still left on drive that could be recovered.

Have you checked the BIOS settings where you can select "Boot from C:, A: (floppy, if you still have that thing) or from CD-ROM". If you configured it to boot from your hard drive only, even if you have a bootable CD in your CD drive, it will still boot from the hard drive, as mostly this is the normal operating mode.

Just my guess. I don't use XP as my home computer is still running Win98, and my work computer is running Win2000Pro.

Or just buy a Mac :-*

My Bios is set to boot from DVD, because I never use a Floppy anymore. I figured out why it would work last time. My wife has her section locked with a pass word and wont let it be deleted. It has now been removed so I will do it on the weekend.
