Hi Liv .. You might get a better price out of the penny saver or news paper under building material. Ceder is of course in HIGH demand for 2 reasons. 1 - The season of high use is summer and it's summer now and .. 2 - people are moving away from pressure treated products. You may save some dollars by looking for a lesser grade or ceder but if I were you I would look at and consider the natural ceder sheathing or the ceder wafer board products. If installed properly these products do a nice job, smell the same and save you a pile of cash

You could try Lanark Cedar. They are just past Carleton Place on Hwy #7 (613)257-1107.

thx to both of you for your suggestions,

Salty, I did check those panels out.. but they dont look too good. Are you sure they smell for as long as the normal stuff ?

Yes they act in the same way as solid ceder with the only difference being that they are made out of the chips and shavings that are created when the mill makes the prime products like deck or fence boards and siding. I have seen a few closets made using these products and they look better then you might think and smell great. If it matters to you they are also considered to be a "greener" product that makes use of what would have been wasted not that long ago.

what did you end up doing? just wondering if you found a good price on the real thing or went with the sheathing.

i called the place you had suggested, they only sell the 1" thick stuff.. way too big and expensive.

I looked at the sheathing and its not what i'm looking for.
I'm still scratching my head on this.. i'm tempted in doind gypse rock and finish it at once..

u got any suggestions ? i had my head set to cedar.. but open to ideas
    thx !

Is it the look or the smell that you want? If it is the smell then I am sure you have seen those ceder tiles that have a hook on them and you just hang a few in the closet with the stored clothes. If it is the look that is more important then perhaps if you look around you can find ceder that is thiner that can be laminated to the drywall.

it was for the look and for the smell.
I might go with pine and tint it a bit.
would be around 1/2 or 1/3 the price.

the laminate is pretty much out of the question because I can't bring any big sheets up to the closet as the stairs are too narrow for a 4x8 sheet. thats is another reason why the tongue and groove stuff looks like an easy option...
if not i'll have to cut the gypse in small sheets of 4x4... twice the work...
