The province is 120 billion dollars in debt. This is what happens when there is 35 years of uncontrolled spending by the government (deficit year after year). The next 20 years will be very, very difficult...

    Sorry for the cold shower.

yeh, doesn't it suck, hydro says that they under charged us for over 20 years or some crap like that. now they want to stick it to us.plus its probaly paying for the lost revenue of last summers black out and the ice storm. the government should really be helping us get off! hydro and onto wind and solar! if there serious about losing a TON! they all suck. gasoline!! now don't get me started.

I heard from a well informed source without confirmation that Hydro has already collected enough money to pay off their own debt. This is a liberal government cash grab. Also from what I understand the total increase will be more like 9%. Then of course they will move forward with their plan for smart meters that we will have to pay for. Followed by the government dictating to us middle class folks when we can afford to use electricity.

Hydro Québec is a cash cow for the Québec government. Over here, I've noticed that the media is trying to brainwash us for the past year that increasing hydro rates is a "responsible thing to do" since the rates are lower than elsewhere. They don't mention that income taxe is much higher than elswhere though. It's similar to a few years ago when it was often written in the "La Presse" that people who were against the suburbs fusion to Montreal were "egocentric". Well, since we've join Montréal, my municipal/school taxes go up about 1000$/year, and services have degraded.
