    Smile Pond Renovation

    Hi everyone,
something to share in those who likes ponds.I have always built large ponds in my backyard.
Last year I noticed I had a leak and the inner walls were softening up.

So this year we decided to rebuild it and make it a touch wider the old size was 15ft x 8ft x 3ft. Now it will be 20 ft x 15ft x 5ft with one larger waterfall and a fitration stream section to oxygenate and filter without havint to see the large rectangular filters people add.

I will post pics as I progress with this project.

    Hole digged out

    Ok so hear we go,
The pond holehas been dug out.The outer rim will have a shelf which you cant see yet since it was raining that will be aprox 12" flat and 12" high .I will create the platform where the flagstone will be kept from there.

If you notice the round hole in the centre this will be where the water pump is installed with lava stone for prefiltration.

On the right side of the picture there is a bolder man was this heavy I had to roll it up and place blocks of 4x4 just to lift it up to get it out of the pond after I did that I was pooped for the night. that is where a filtration stream will be built creating a cascade effect and will hade pebbles for filtration.

the Front of the pond is like a slope where it goes right up to the grass here We can feed the fish and they will come right up to the top of pond border its cool to see a bunch of kois flopin around in shallow water for food. Its also a good place for me to walk in to the pond, whithout having to jump in.

I will post pics from start to finish.I got the liner and will have to glue it since the pond is wider than the average pond.I also have to order 2-3 tons of flagstone this coming week.

It never freezes solid I remove the main pump and place a 1200gph pump just to circulate the water in a small area, the fish bieng coldwater fish go into a hybernation mode like most fish during the winter and just feed on the sediment on the bottom they barely move.
