    Virus/Spyware/Adware Help

What is some of the better software out now to get rid of viruses and adware/spyware these days? I haven't kept up to date on this stuff and now I'm paying the price.

    Thanks.

McAfee is good. very well rounded. Also Ad aware 6.0 is a good program for pop-ups. Free download.I've had McAfee now for about 1 month and I havn't had a popup or anything since. Highly recomended

I use Norton Anti Virus, AdAware, and Spy Sweeper.
Spy sweeper picks up on things AdAware misses.

For spyware, just one is not enough, so better with both adaware and spy sweeper. Also, if you have high speed connection, do not neglect a firewall, either norton or zone labs

Here's what I run.... and you need them all... all free.

    SPYWARE:
    - Microsoft Spyware beta is great, however, the latest update doesn't remove GATOR because Microsoft is in business talks with them. It USED TO REMOVE IT... Friggin Microsoft....

    - ADAWARE Personal edition

    - SPYBOT

    AntiVirus:
    - AVG by Grisoft. The free edition is a hidden download here:

I do not like to use a single product to cover all my security issues. There is a risk that if one part of a security suite fails to load properly or becomes disabled the WHOLE thing may not work and leave you wide open.
I use McAfee for Viruses, Alarm Zone for fire wall and Pest Patrol for Spy wear, keyboard loggers etc.

A multi level defense is always a good idea. Symantec anti virus 10 is effective against both spyware and virus & gets regular updates.

I also recommend MS Anti-Spyware. Between the two not much can get through.

Firewalls have become a requirement on your system. If you don't have one on you PC spend the cash for a plug in appliance. It's sacry what bounces off my parimeter at home.

BTW Gator (and some other spyware freaks) are claiming to be legitmate companies. In theory you shouldn't have Gator on your system unless you agreed to it by installing a "free" application that get's it's funding via Gator adds. Because you technically agreed to it, these guys are systematically sueing everyone that automagically removes their crapware from your system.

Keep in mind unless you're using linux, nothing is free. You're going to pay for it some how & I find simple cash is usually the least expensive.

    Cheers!
There is nothing so permanent as a temporary measure.
