Time to fire up Sunaquatics ballast and bulb combo.

How long do your lights take to fire up ?

I have two new 250w, the last 3 days, turned on 3 times, the 1st set is in between 5 to 15 mins, the 2nd set 4 hrs, 20 mins, 2hrs. Anyone is having similar problem ? I switched bulbs and the delay to start up is due to the bulb.

Any idea ? I don't know how MH works. I'll dig some information.

    Thanks.

Check to make sure the contacts are Ok. Sometimes the tongue in the socket needs to be pulled out to get proper contact.

Did you wire your ballast or did you get an electrician to do it?. Someone on Canreef had a similer problem but then they found out that the wiring was not done properly.

Loose connection of some sort will be the reason. I would strongly urge you to get an electrician to to the job as improper connections void warranty on bulb and ballast.

The contact between the tongue and the bulb was confirmed with multimeter, although it was pulled out a bit for a better contact.

All my connections were twisted and soldered then covered in the twist nuts used for electrical connection.

I`ll switch bulbs between the two sets again in a few days, which would help confirming which causes the delay to fire up.

    Thanks Venki for the information.

Sounds like a wiring problem to me....

The only thing two reef keepers will agree on, is what the third reef keeper is doing wrong!

    also note

some lamps do have trouble firing the first few times for some unknown reason and then all of a sudden the problem is gone. I've read this a few times but never experienced it.

Thanks for all your reply, both of my lights are now firing up more consistently within 15 mins. The bulbs seem to require a burn-in period for startup as well as ther color temperature.

yep, this is very common. Especially the burn in for a better color.

Any MH should NOT take about 15 minutes to come on full brightness. Are you sure your ground wire is in it's correct place?

Is this the SunAquatics E-Ballast you're using?
    It's not junk, it's un-assembled DIY!
