    Nice Barnacle!!
I've always liked finding those in corals too, but unfortunately, they don't usually live very long.

Very nice coral...I have abarnicle that has been in my tank (attached to LR now) for over a year....it's slowly going though as it's tentacles are not coming out as far as they use to....

The only thing two reef keepers will agree on, is what the third reef keeper is doing wrong!

what is a barnicle (sorry to sound doumb)? is that the scientific name for the hammer? if so are you suggesting that the hammer is not easy to keep? i was thinking about getting one.

    Alrha,
Nope, a barnacle is a type of sedentary crab that builds a cocoon and stays in it. That fan you see is what it waves out of the hole to catch food drifting by. They usually don't last long because either a fish will slurp it up or it just doesn't get enough food coming it's way. In my tank, they were all picked out rather quickly by my Copperband. They are basically tiny versions of what you see always growing on the underneaths of ships and wharfs.
If you like that color, you should see the one I have. It is a deep purple with green tips . I got it from Johnny Rock during a trade. Unfortunately I don't have a pic of it, but maybe he has a pic lying around... Johnny..., you there??!!!!!
