    Rio pumps are the WORST!

    Folks,

How many fellow reefers use RIO pumps (600's, 2100's etc) and have had issues with them?  I have had the pain of owning 4 of these (600's) for my old protein skimmers, and now my Aque Fuge.  I clean these things @ least once a month and it never fails... they just stop working or you have to give them a big whack to get them going!  These pumps aren't even a year old!  What a pain these things are.  Any suggestions short of throwing these things in the Ottawa river?

Also Ivan I've been meaning to ask what's up with the Porno type music when you enter the site?  Not that I know what porno music sounds like

    I have a Rio 2100 and it is sh@#!
Same deal I have to clean it once a month. It seem like I can visualy watch the output drop after I clean it!
I tried the vasline thing and it didn't help much. Stopped the grinding noise comming from it but did nothing for the effeciency. When it finally goes I will swap for a Mag 7. Anyone have a used Mag 7 for sale?

I have three RIO 2100's in my system. One running my protein skimmer (Marinescape made it), one across the surface of the water, and one behind my rock wall. I've had one for two years, and the other two going on to a year. I find they move incredible amounts of water, and I haven't had the same problem of having to clean them every month. I don't notice the output lessening either. I do however hate those g*dd@mn things when it comes to restarting them. Gordo, if you can get them going with one whack, I envy you. I usually take them apart and reassemble them after the impeller gets going again.  >

Not to get off topic or anything, but Ivan, I've been meaning to ask you about that music as well...I was just going to do it in person.

lol... errr ummm I figured since most of the people interested in this hobby are men... why not have a little porn music for an intro.

Ever wake up in the middle of the night thinking... "man.. why do I got the urge to go to that aquaria site?" hehe

    :P

yeah you got to cookie that intro too, we don't need to see it everytime. I link into the forum "home" only now to avoid it. hehe

As for RIO - I've never touched em because of their reputation for being crap. There are so many others to choose from.

Mind you - I also hate the Mag 2, been through 3 of them over the years for my calcium reactor. Need to build my new one and hook up my LG3 to it.

I only use 600's on my bakpak and fuge....they are a pain in the a$$ to start up.....I've been told that only the big ones can go off in a tank and cause real damage...I've never had a problem with mine...yet... :-/
