    Double Ended vs Mogul

    Hi,
are there any studies done on these two types of bulbs, some people swear by DE and some by SE.
What are your opinions on these bulbs, what are the plus and minus if any. I know that the Germans/Europeans like the DE supposidly because they are supposed to be a stronger bulb when it comes down to wat and Par.

If anyone has any links to studies please post it

    Thanks

Double ended bulbs produce much more PAR per watt, compared to mogul bulbs. This is due in part to the size of the bulb (DE bulbs are smaller), and the quality of the reflector. Mogul bulbs have a lot of wasted glass in the form of built in UV shields whereas the DE bulbs do not have any shielding whatsoever. This is the reason why DE bulbs need to be used in a reflector that has glass in front of the bulb.

I'll see if I can dig up some measurements.

    Here's a link:

It basically sums up what I've said. The integrated reflector with DE bulbs is what gives them their advantage. If you get a chance to take a look at the quality of a good DE reflector, you'll see what I mean. By themselves, though, the bulbs compare pretty even.
