    cLOSED LOOP SYSTEM DRIVEN BY AN AIR PUMP

    Has anyone ever thought of this....is it possible.

    The reson I ask is I' am looking for alternative to water pumps.......especially with the rising electricty bills coming in the spring....this hobby will get even more expensive.:bawling:

    What size is your tank?

    I mean most air pumps.. Use very weak.. rubber Diagframs.. and don't thing it would be remotly strong enough to push water.. let alone hold water.

    there is alot of 40 watt air pumps that will push 1200 gal per hour easily.......the eco wheel setup runs the whole tank plus surge device with 1 157 watt air pump.......unit can run 500 gal reef setup

    You should check out the sequence pumps. 160 watts of power, for 3600 gph at 0' head!

    So are the Air pumps that much cheaper to run then normal water pumps?

    Yes it's already been thought of and is actually used on lots of bigger setups such as propagation tanks or wholesalers. it's called an airlift system and uses a "blower" instead of airpumps. Do a search on"blower system" setups for tanks.
