    Power bill disussion/poll

Im having issues again with a landlord, heres my situation :Argue: our bill is supposedely around $275, my grandma's is supposedely $75 (i havent seen the bill, so its all heresay). My grandma eats here and does her laundry here, cause her washer is busted. so our dishwasher goes everyday where as hers maybe once a week, and she doesnt do any laundry at her house. not sure what other tenants consume I couldnt say My tank:

    115W ocean runner return
250W MH 6 hours a day, sometimes i override for a bit longer
    50W skimmer pump
72W frag tank light 6-8 hours
    7W MJ for reactor

personally i dont think the bill is that bad, i've lived on my own before, and it was more than that, but i'd like to know other peoples take......

$275 doesn't sound that bad, but it's all relative to the size of the place, AC ?? etc.

At approximately 5.5cents Kw, it's not difficult to figure out how much your tank is actually costing you per month. Then again, you may not want too.....

I'd grab a hydro meter from CT, or where ever, and see how much hydro everything runs but don't forget to add in time for lighting. See how much you roughly use or if you have a separate line just read the meter now and again in a few days and average it out.

If the landlord really serves up a fuss you could ask to see the bill or if your rent includes hydro smile and say that's nice because there is nothing they can do, especially if you have a lease. If you don't have a lease your landlord could raise your rent every three months (if I remember right) and only by a small percentage (I think it's 5% atm). Otherwise, the utilities is why inclusive rentals are so much more than plus's and they just need to suck it up. Your utility bills could be double your rent and there's nothing they could do if your rent is in any way inclusive.
You only do what you know because you don't know better.

    that bill sounds about right.
I do run AC during the summer...specially this summer with a pregnant wife.

my tank currently runs but is missing the metal halides.
takes about 700w to run 24/24
add 1200w soon with the metal halides.

I also have a hospital setup, add about 130w.

I also have old tv's, old fridge and lots of power hungry tools which i use daily.
last bill was ~285$ i think.. i expect with AC running all the time lately i will hit the 300+$ on the next one. ouch !

maybe i should go 250w metal halides lol.

dude should be happy it's only 275. I pay 230 a month just for (get this) 13w lights all through the house, and an AC! And the AC is set at 80F or 27C. (because normally it's about 32 to 36 in the day and about 32 at night, so this makes our house seem actually cool)
In cayman we pay 78 cents a kilowatt hour!

If I had a tank setup like most of you guys. I would be paying about 1000 US a month for electricity, and that's just for the tank. And that is not an exageration!

thanks i should clear things up, the weirdest thing is i dont seem to have a hydro meter? i have no clue where it is, i didnt even know the townhouses had meters. when I used to have my own place the bill was every two months. and it was around 300 every 2 months. so I assume the 275 is per 2 months? never seen the bill its a stupid situation I cant wait to get out of here. and we do have AC as well

Check at the end of the town house (i assume you are attached to other houses all in a row)
at one end, there is going to be all the meters for each house.
