    Peppermint shrimp

    Hi all!

I have 2 peppermint shrimp(small in size 2"-3"),one seems to like my Torch coral too much...
Are they known to munch on corals or they just clean them?

If it's the first in the sump they go!

    Anyone?

    Thanks in advance

lol, you may not have a choice on the sump relocation as this is where all my peppermint's end up. they seem to love to hang out in the overflow, then take the waterslide to the basement.

as far as i know and have seen they only clean the coral etc ..... now are you sure that you have peppermints or could they possibly be camel shrimp, as they bare known to nip at corals and nems. ( i'm looking for the thread that has some easy tells ) many LFS's confuse the two and sell them to unsuspecting reefers.

Yes they are both Peppermint. It is just "that one" that seems to be picking at the corals(particulary my torch) but i still cannot tell if she's cleaning or eating them. When she see me coming she runs away...

    I'll keep my eyes open.

    Thanks for the info!

Well i did some more reading and came across an interesting thing:
There is 2 kind of Peppermint shrimp...one from the Atlantic and one from the Caribbean witch is the bad one.It has been known to nip at corals and sometimes just kill them. This was an article i found on another forum.

    Good to know!

Now i already catch one...but i think the second one will be different story.I'm using the see-trough container method, witch i found to work quite well.
I'll see if i got another customer tomorrow morning...lol
