    anthias behavior ??

Been researching on Anthias behavior, specifically the bicolor anthias.
not much out there in terms of behavior/habits.. etc. Ordered a book on Amazon hopefully has some insight.. but I wont hold my breath.

I have 3 bi-color Anthias.. they swim together most of the time. when they are not together ( one in particular ) always seperates from the group and lies down flat on the rocks sometimes for hours making me think its sick, but its been doing this for over a month now daily. he sleeps the same way too.
Maybe he's trying to attract the cleaner shrimp, he does seem to love the shrimp cleaning him/her but.. he is just lying flat to attrack the shrimp??

He's got some patience if thats the case.. I mean literally hours lying still.

    Anyone seen similar behavior ?

moving.. so temporarily out of SW :b8:
planning next tank, possibly 60x30x20 on 2x plasma.

only one does this.. the rest seem just fine.
the last ones I kept, I had them for over a year and sold them when i took down my old tank. none had died.

they look bright and colorful too.
    thanks for the info John

hope he makes it, I never had much luck with ANTHIAS. once I'm up and running I will be trying the LYER TAILS.

I have 3 lyertails (sp?) Anthia's (1m2F) and they are all going well in my tank for several months, and had been in a friends tank for a while (he had 7 total) with no issues. They are the most active fish in my tank. I do see them occasionally "rest" in an secluded area for a few minutes but they don't lie down, just hover in a spot. But then are back up running around like little kids.

Is it possible that you have 2 males, 1 dominant, 1 submissive? That would explain the one always being away from the rest of the group.

ahhh could be.. the thought had occured.. but I canot see any differences between them at all.. yet.. but i'll look closer. does make sence. maybe they fight and one goes to recup from time to time. but i've never seen any aggression.
