    blind fish?

I just bought a brown powder tang and I think he's blind. swims around and bumps in all the rocks and the glass. Even when I put my hand in the tank he bumps into my hand.

    can a fish be blind?

Did you aclimate it or you just tossed it in.
    I would't say it's blindness, but severe shock/distress.

Could it be residual effects from cyanide poisoning?

you can't see anything wrong with the eye??

    no parasites, anything??

if it is a parasite problem, you could try a dip ( formalin or FW ) but i am always reluctant to advise this without seeing the fish.

    can you feed him??

i would wait a little bit and see what happens but if the fish is truly blind and not a parasitic of bacterial problem, i don't think there is much you can do. unfortunately if this is true you may have to euthanize the fish to save him from a slow and painful death due to starvation. but please don't rush it, try to hand feed him for now and try to get a really good look at his eyes.

any other fish in the tank ? if none, maybe params are way off and he's panicking...
if other fish are fine and specially if inverts are fine.. then

sounds like a health issue to me.
he should be quarantined or brought back to the person who you bought it from.

moving.. so temporarily out of SW :b8:
planning next tank, possibly 60x30x20 on 2x plasma.
