    Loud Rio Pump

I have noticed my RIO pump for my acrylic city skimmer (that works great) has gotten very loud - I can hear it from about 10 feet away from the tank. I know this can't be good for the fish and it's annoying the hell out of me, anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it ?

    thanks,
    Nick.

    RIOS

Do you know that RIO pumps have a very bad rep. for frying! they haver cause many tanks to crash as they burn up and spew toxic crap into the tank. go to RC and search RIO pumps. Not to panic you but I will never use a RIO.

Mmmmm. A MaxiJet 1200 puts out 295gph, and a Rio 2100 about 700gph. Is this a fair solution, Pluff. Why not a Mag 7 or Quiet One 3000, each of which put out 700 or more gph?

I think I only have a RIO600, and it was cheaper then the maxi so I'm sure the rio isn't any more powerfull.

I agree with John... BAD...., BAD PUMPS!!!!!!! In the meantime, try taking it apart and soaking it in vinegar a day or two. then clean it up. All pumps and powerheads need periodic cleanings.
