    Zinn-Phytoplankton Reactor

Check this out ..... a site picked outta the "tank of the month" on reef central.

For all those wanting to DIY phyto plankton reactors this may be an alternative....

    http://www.korallenriff.de/reaktoren.html

Good luck interpreting it unless your German and if you are you may be of help in ordering the device.

These units are not available in North America unfortunately.......However, I'm sure we can get them in.....been on-line with the creator of the unit and the guy from the reefcentral tank of the month award......He lives in Finland.

Anyways have fun reading , tranlating etc ;D

box wise it's not tough, you just need to get the super fine meshes (53n) etc. for allowing phyto to pass through, but not rotifers, etc.

You could make one out of a 10gal aquarium - just need to order the mesh from the same place we need to get the phyto fertilizer & starter disks etc. Richard has what he needs to do something like this.

You would have to be damn careful - looks like it would be easy to contaminate your phyto side... if you get ONE rotifer on the "green water" side, yer screwed.

it's quite cool - a zooplankton & phytoplankton reactor indeed - No need for a UV filter etc. if it's not attached to the reef.

You can get the mesh from Aquaculture Supply House. They've got all sizes.

I can see a high potential for contamination of the algea culture though...

I would be all over some king of hang on model that went on a timer to add Phytoplankton to the main tank.
