I have never used Kalkwasser to this point and have always used calcium additives in my smaller tank. Now that I have upgraded to a larger 140 gallon tank I have been more interested in this economical method of adding calcium back to the system. During my research, I came across an article which recommended mixing the Kalkwasser mix or pickling lime with white vinegar. The article states the following benifits:
  1. more calcium
  2. vinegar chemically provides enough co2 to avoid precipitating the newly added calcium ions into useless calcium carbonate powder
  3. free organic carbon to feed bacteria in the system which will convert Nitrates to n02 gas
This sounds great and all ingredients are cheap. Has any body used this method? What are your thought? What methods are most common?
