    Bare bottom????

Who here is running a bare bottom tank??? I will be setting up the tank soon and am thinking about setting it up bare bottom. There will be a sand bed in the refugium and also in a seperate sump that will contain only sand and live rock. This sump will be a 150g rubbermaid container that will hold smaller containers that will contain the sand. This way it will be easier to remove the sand bed if necesary . Or part of the sand bed without disterbing it. Any thoughts???

I keep a tiny sand bed in the tank for aesthetic reasons, I like the look of sand with the light shimmer.
I also keep some burrowing creatures that wouldn't be happy without some sand.

Tons of people are doing bare-bottoms on the net with great success.
The bottom is usually covered with a piece of plastic. That piece eventually becomes covered in coraline giving the bottom a purple look.. or which ever coraline you have.

moving.. so temporarily out of SW :b8:
planning next tank, possibly 60x30x20 on 2x plasma.

I am going bare bottom on my next tank, 180g, and am also planning/hoping to carpet the bottom w/ zoa's.
