    ID of Clam

    Hello All,

I was staring at my tank the other day and noticed this clam opening up and I was hoping that someone may know what type it is. It is stuck to a piece of LR.

thats an oyster not a clam, looks like a throny oyster ( Spondyllus sp. ). despite the name they don't all have thorns, due to handling and where they grow etc.........

they're filter feeders and usually don't last very long in our closed systems.

are you adding any phytoplankton to the tank??

daily feedings of phytoplankton and maintaining the proper Ca and Alk are your best bet to keep this little guy happy.

Great thanks. I do feed daily phyto(Chromaplex-Kent) because of my Red Chili sponge, and some tunicates, I have.

    Thanks again for the id.
