A new bed for my clownfish!

My crazy clownfish decided to start hosting the sand LOL and I really want to buy him a new bed. I don't want an anemone but a nice looking coral, that won't spread like weed :b2:, something small cuz it will be the only non sps coral in my tank.

    Suggestions? :b7:

    Thanks in advance!

corals may get stressed from the clowns.. and you want it to stay small.. not sure.. i was going to say toadstool but they get huge in no time.

moving.. so temporarily out of SW :b8:
planning next tank, possibly 60x30x20 on 2x plasma.

You can try a Sun coral. My clown has hosted mine, and they seem to be ok with him also.

I don't think a sun coral is a good host... most of the time their polyps will be retracted so the clown will more than likely won't host it.

When you feed your tank the polyps should extend for a couple of hours but anything touching them will cause them to retract again. Another peeve with sun corals is the feeding... each polyp is its own coral and must be fed at least once a week(2-3 is better)... they will eventually die if you don't.

    Hello IJO,

My suns are out almost all day and night, they tend to retract a bit when the daytiem light are on, but stay open about 16 hours+ a day. I feed them everynight, and sometimes I feed the tank a bit in the morning before I turn on the lights. The Suns dont retract at all when the clown goes in them. all of thew colonies I have the clown will go in and they all accept him. I know that this is the the best host for a clown, but every clown is different. Dynamite's clown might not host it at all, and the suns may not even accept him. It's worth a try, he can always sell the colony if they don't accept him.

No problem IJO, I have not heard of it either, it was quite funny to watch. Also, I did have one of the frags with about 25+ polyps for sale a few months back. I was making some room in my tank.

I just hope that he doesn't try to host my Rhizo, or he might be dinner...lol

Our clowns had decided to host our button polyps and they really didn't like that so we went and bought a hand size hairy mushroom rock and they took to it right away ! now they have a nice cozy bed and my polyps get to relax.

We have had these for almost 2 years and the growth has not been extreme.
