    Tang Tank Size Debate

OK, this seems like the most discussed topic in the reef hobby but figured what the hell.... I'm trying to pick a tang for my 77 gallon tang and looking for suggestions... so far potentials I've come across are

yellow, kole, scoopa, atlantic blue, purple, powder blue/brown, white cheek.

Anything missing from the list ? suggestions anyone ?

    tangs

all fairly good if going with just 1 tang. [white cheek]? are you talking about the powder brown? I have one and it does well. Blues are a tad more difficult.

When referring to Powder browns, many LFS bring in either the A. nigricans and the A. japonicus commonly mistaking the two.

    More information is available here:

As for suggestions, I would suggest either a kole tang, yellow tang, Scopas tang, or even a nice Chevron tang. The Purple may tend to be aggressive and territorial.

As beautiful as the power blues and browns are, I wouldn't put them in anything smaller than a 120gallon tank unless you expect to trade them in (which IMO is unfair). This also applies to the atlantic blue tang as well.

    nbreau,

You should also note that while Johnny does indeed have a beautiful Powder brown in his 90, he is really small right now, and Johnny is upgrading to a 500+ gallon tank very soon.

You should base your decision on the well being of the fish. A Sailfin IMO will also tend to outgrow a 77 gal eventually.

Cool... too bad, I don't like the yellow very much and the rest of the smaller tank tangs just aren't very attractive....

Hmm... I would say that the Chevron tang is actually quite appealing... And they're great forragers to boot....

    Tangguru,
You're going to start a Chevy vs. Ford debate with a comment like that!!!
I'd agree, the Chevron is really nice & colorful.
