Anyone with hang on skimmers or strong pumps in your tank?

Just a quick question. I have a hang on skimmer on a 45gal tank. And I'm running a berlin pump on it. But I worried about it being to strong and sucking in fish. It's rated at 500gph. What do any of you, who have a strong pump in your tank do?

Strong pump intakes need to be covered with some sort of open mesh plastic screen. If the pump manufacture dose not offer a screened cover and the intake hole has some sort of lip molded into the plastic ... I'm sure you can rig something up on it . Otherwise it will suck up small fish and for that mater anything that gets close enough to it.

Well it has the cover on it with small slots but, I guess I'm worried about them getting stuck on the outside then dying

No if it has a cover fish should be OK wondering anemones however could get into trouble depending on how much space there is between the pumps actual intake hole and the face of the screen.
