    Mangroves

Well my mangroves are all doing amazingly well and the roots are taking off right down into the refugium. Thos of you that don't use mangroves or have just started using them this is what I find.

I dose with Kent iron...(careful with this stuff)
Under NO flourescent lights 8 hours a day
High water flow through my refugium
I prune the leaves on top about once every two weeks.
Rinsed once a week with fresh R/O water as they sweat salt.

My skimmer works less, the water quality can't be better. Only down fall is that they will compete and win over other macro's. I have eight of them in teh refugium and sump...here's apicture of two showing leaves and roots. I would highly recommend them for any system. Mine are now about 12 inches high.

How long have you been using mangroves? I'd like to use them in my next tank.

These are about 3 months old...I've had my other mangroves in for about 5 months...They're great in my opinion. Mine grow like crazy and I prune the tops every 2-3 weeks. If you keep the leafs down, the roots grow larger. Like almost all plants. Since I've added them my skimmer pulls about 30-40% less skimate and it's at full efficiency...

Looking good Mouse, did you get them locally or were you able to mail order the mangroves?

Ivan has them, Liv, since I ordered one a week or so ago. I wanted to make sure they would grow for me before I get more.
