    Unhappy Need major help!! Please!

Ok. This maybe a long post but please read this and give me some feed back. I need help.

    Tank:
    35g running for 9mts
    192w PC lights
Emp 400 2 carbon packs, 2 packs full of ammonia chips
Bak Pak 2R skimmer (runs 4hrs every two days, or more if needed)

    Contents:
    Coral Beauty
    Cleaner shrimp
    Hermit crabs and snails
    Feather duster
    Bubble tip Anemone

    Levels:
    Salt 1.025
    pH 8.3
Ammonia 0.25 ppm (it has never been 0)
    Nitrate 10 ppm
    Nitrite 0 ppm

    Problem:
I have not been able to keep a prec clown in my tank. I have lost the 5 that I have tried (one at a time of course over 6mts) every perc that I put in there does fine for the first 2-3hrs then starts gasping for air and dies within 24hrs. No other tank mates show aggression or signs of stress. I have been using bio-zyme. The only suggestion that my lfs had was to try Bio Chem Zorb. He also tested the levels which were the same as above.

Any ideas what could be causing my problem? Anyone have suggestions or ideas?

    Desperate for help!
    John

    when ? how much ?

try damsels, they are hardy.. ( instead of spending a bunch of money au those beauts.
what water are you using to replace the water ?

    what do you dose ?

moving.. so temporarily out of SW :b8:
planning next tank, possibly 60x30x20 on 2x plasma.

why dont you run your skimmer all the time ?? 4 hours is usually not enough time to get the optimal running mode.

i top off every 2wks with 2gal, city water, treated for chlorine and tested before it goes in the tank. always left for a day or so.
i do a 5gal water change every 8wks or so

    i dont dose anything.

since there is no load in the tank the skimmer will not pull anything but clear water. and i was told that it would strip the good stuff if i left it on all the time if it was not needed by the tank.

All your clowns were dead within 2-3 hours and the coral beauty was doing OK ? I assume the clowns were tank raised and they should be very hardy ( damsel family ). So if you got all the clowns from the same LFS, they could all be sick before you brought them home. I would try to get another clown from different LFS. Also your ammonia should be 0 consider your bio load unless there is dead stuff in your tank.

I would do more water change ( may be 50%) for the course of three days.
90G bb mixed reef set up in April 2005. I had 40g mixed reef for one year before that

    Some interesting read on clownfish
    http://www.wetwebmedia.com/clnfishdisfaq7.htm
I would also drop my PH from 8.3 to 7.9/8.2 PH test kits are not know be reliable.
You may be running alot higher then you exspect. Other tankmates will become acustomed to higher levels over time.
Aclamate overtime with a slow drip and have some mysis handy for first few feeds.
    Hope all works out.

i was thinking of getting it from middle cove. cape spear would be good but it would be a long drive for 5gals and a long walk back to the car...haha...
plus middle cove has no homes near by and is a huge bay with no boats.

try the biochem zorb, dont go the natural sea water route. To many pollutants in it to make it fit to use, (Remember the St.John's bubble). I have a few perc clown fry that I'm raring, they should be ready in a few weeks. If you want to try two of them be my quest. Seeing I know ya dont worry about it. If that doesn't work, see what people say about adding a gallon or two from a tank with good water parameters and who also successfully keep clowns.
Good luck with it. Also why not try a hardier clown like a clarki.
